Do you ever struggle with praying? You get down on your knees or sit down wishing to pray, but your mind just goes blank and you don’t know what to say.
I realized something important: I don’t need better words. I need God’s Word. That is why I created my Prayer Bible.
I wanted to share exactly how I made it so that you can create your own peaceful space for prayer, too.
The Bible I Used
For this project, I chose a NASB large print, pocket-size Bible by Holman. The golden pages and the olive details are just beautiful to look at.
Setting Up the First Pages
Right on the first page, I placed the Lord’s Prayer, a picture from our wedding, and pictures of our kids.
On the next page, I have a “Pray” sticker, a list of 10 of God’s promises, and a special note I wrote to myself. Underneath the pray sticker, I use simple sticky notes to write down the names of anyone who asks me for prayers. It makes it so easy to place them on the page, pray for them, and remove them when I’m done.
My Color-Coded Prayer Themes
To keep my thoughts organized, I listed different prayer themes on the last page. Each theme has its own matching color-coded row and sticky tabs:
- Purple: Marriage & Husband
- Dark Blue: Fear, Anxiety & Peace
- Light Blue: Healing & Health
- Yellow: Kids & Parenting
- Peach: Finances & Debt-Free
- Pink: Prayers for Me
When I find a verse I want to pray over, I highlight it with the theme’s color, mark the edge of the page with a matching sticky tab, and tuck a matching sticky note into the spine to write out my personal prayer.
How to Tuck Prayers and Ribbons Into the Spine
I have a few special sections that stand alone. For example, Psalm 91 is marked for protection, and I wanted to keep a printed prayer for my family tucked safely inside.
Tucking things into the spine is so simple and keeps everything secure so nothing falls out:
- Measure and Cut: Measure your paper or photos against the size of your Bible and cut them down to fit.
- Glue the Edge: Add a little bit of glue or double-sided tape to just one edge of the paper.
- Tuck it in: Carefully slide that glued edge directly into the open spine of the Bible.
I used this exact method to tuck in the prayers and photos for my sons and my daughter. (I also used a little bit of beautiful washi tape to secure the photos flat to the pages).
My Bible originally came with just one green ribbon, but I wanted more markers. I took a small piece of cardstock, attached two extra ribbons (a blue one and a pink one) using double-sided tape, and tucked the cardstock right into the spine. Now, I use the blue ribbon for my sons, the pink for my daughter, and the green for protection.
The Answered Prayers Envelope
At the very back of my Bible, I took a piece of paper printed with rainbows and hearts and folded it into a little envelope. I used double-sided tape to glue it to the back cover. This is my favorite part—it is the special place where I store all of my answered prayers.
